Importing Text

Questionmark Live CSV

Import via iSolutions – Please raise a ticket to import CSV files, do not import them yourself.

Questionmark’s preferred import method is a Live CSV file. This is an Excel document with the following columns

Column 1: Type of question

  • Multiple Choice – MC
  • Multiple Response – MR
  • Multiple Response (right/wrong) – MRWR
  • True/False – TF
  • Yes/No – YN
  • Text Match – TM
  • Likert Scale – LKS

For Multiple Choice and Multiple Response, the columns are then

Column 2: Question stimulus

Column 3: Choice

Column 4: Score

Column 5: Feedback

The last three columns repeat for each choice in the question.

Question type code Stimulus Choice 1 Score Feedback 1 Choice 2 Score Feedback 2 Choice N Score Feedback N
MC Where in Canada is the Questionmark office? Edmonton 1 That is correct. Calgary 0 That is incorrect. Toronto 0 That is incorrect.
MR Where in Canada is the Questionmark office? Edmonton 1 That is correct. Alberta 1 That is correct. Toronto 0 That is incorrect.

Legacy ASCII import

In Questionmark Perception, the authoring manager allowed you to import ASCII text. This was text that read

<T>MC
<Q>Stimulus
<C>Incorrect choice
<C+>Correct choice
<C>Another incorrect choice
<T>MR
<Q>Stimulus
<C>Incorrect choice
<C+>Correct choice
<C+>Another correct choice

Like the live CSV, you could change MC to MR for multiple responses. iSolutions have programs that will convert this format into OnDemand.

Natural Text Import

Faculties such as Biology write questions in a more natural way, making Multiple Choice questions in the following format

Q>Stimulus
Incorrect choice
+Correct choice
Another incorrect choice
Q>Stimulus
Incorrect choice
+Correct choice
Another incorrect choice

iSolutions have programs that will convert this format into OnDemand

Styles and images

Images

Images cannot be imported with the Text Import tools. You will need to import the questions and then add pictures to them in OnDemand.

Styles

Styles are not imported with Text Import tools. Once imported you will need to edit the text to add bold, italics, subscript or superscript.
