Ideas for Social Networks
We met together to share some basic ideas about a brand new social network. Here are some of the ideas we discussed:
Idea 1 – Silly Short Shows
A social network where people could share very short video clips of their lives – everything less than a minute. Possibly a bit close to Vine.
Idea 2 – Improve my English
A social network that supports those who are coming to the UK to improve their language skills from the locals. Important when you are visiting Scotland or Newcastle because the dialect spoken may be broader than received pronunciation. There should also be the opportunity to make friends and find out about the local culture. The network would need a geographic basis.
Idea 3 – a Private Social Network for Secondary Schools
A PSN for secondary schools. Inviting Y6 to join the network prior to starting at the secondary school. Build personal profiles. Engage with staff – who will also have personal pages. Joins clubs, sports groups and so forth. Make new friends. Develop a sense of belonging. Has been done at Universities in the United States – with positive approval.
Idea 4 – Touch me I’m a Rockstar
A private subscriber only social network for celebrities. For exclusive contact and exclusive content (also the opportunity for particular exclusive merch).
Idea 5 – Festival
For a music festivals; a temporary SM application is created to allow users to access the programme and festival logistics. They can also be pushed merchandising, band, supplier and venue information. Pre- or post-gig opportunities for fans to comment on what they have seen and upload favourite clips. Arrange to meet friends at particular locations. Will allow linking to FB, Instagram and so forth.
Idea 6 – Meal Share
If you are cooking and have a lot left overs why not invite neighbours round – for company and to help cover costs. Experience exotic cooking from your neighbourhood. Every meal is rated.
Idea 7 – Shed Share
In the average garden shed there are loads of unused tools and equipment: trimmers, mowers, clippers, etc. Post what you are happy to lend out. Share your DIY successes. Access the group knowledge to help you with the next big project.
Idea 8 – Child Medical Health Issues
A worried parent – wanting advice – but not serious enough to ask a doctor about their child’s health and development. Not a static ‘info-website’ rather a dynamic conversation.
Idea 9 – Anti-social network
Everything you fear in a social network:
Hates
Insults
Tagging inappropriate pictures.
Private comments made public!
We have decided to develop idea 2.
