Introducing Morethan Talk
When we started thinking about MoreThan Talk we believed that we would be building a web based social network that enabled the connection and meeting between native and non-native students on a campus. For non-native students, it would provide the opportunity to learn about everyday life and language such as idioms, slang, and metaphors and for native students, it would give them an opportunity to learn about other countries, cultures, languages and traditions.
As time went on the scope of the network grew to include anyone who may be wanting to travel to another country but wanted authentic information and ideas about what to see, where to find accommodation, suggestions about local traditions and so forth gleaned from locals.
When students start using the app, they are then able to talk face to face via the app and thereby expand their social group. Thus the overseas students may learn how to pronounce words, speak quickly with native people such as lecturers in the university and they develop their listening and speaking skills. This platform will be a very practical space. It will be a site where international students will want to visit when they want to speak with native people in order to grow in language confidence. At MoreThan Talk they will be able to ask very the simplest of questions when they are not understanding what is being said.
This projects aims to make daily life easier for international students, travellers or even those moving to a new country. It should help them overcome the everyday problems everyone has in their lives more easily and at the same time extend their social and intellectual perspectives. As international students develop their speaking and listening skills, at the same time they will be more successful in their group projects, presentations, lectures and exams. This network will affect them positively. They will more easily understand other group members and it will also help raise student performance and as a result it will help develop confidence, enterprise and happiness. 🙂
