Migration as an outcome and determinant of vulnerability in deltaic populations
Lead: University of Ghana (RIPS), Samuel Codjoe & University of Exeter, Neil Adger
WP3 will assess migration as an adaptation in deltaic environments with a changing climate. The WP aims to understand the conditions that promote migration and its outcomes, as well as gender-specific adaptation options for trapped populations, via surveys. Production of an integrated systems-based bio-physical and socio-economic model will enable investigation of potential future sex disaggregated migration under climate change. The WP will conceptualise and evaluate migration within a wide suite of potential adaptation options at both the household and delta level.
Work Tasks:
3.1 Analysis of demographic change in the delta
3.2 Production of migration maps
3.3 Social survey of households in linked sending and receiving areas
3.4 Immobility-climate change hotspot mapping
3.5 History and political economy of resettlement, displacement and abandonment
3.6 Create rules for the conditions under which migration occurs successfully
