Diversity in natural product families is governed by more than enzyme promiscuity alone: establishing control of the pacidamycin portfolio

“Diversity in natural product families is governed by more than enzyme promiscuity alone: establishing control of the pacidamycin portfolio” by Rebecca Goos et al. was published in Chemical Science end of last year.

The article describes the researchers’ success in directing the production of some specific antibiotics in bacteria. By manipulating the genes responsible for this process the team was able to reduce the number of closely related species to a select few in a true Dial-a-Molecule style.
