Archaeologists visit Basing House

New Students Trip Tomorrow I am very excited to be bringing the new intake of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Department of Archaeology to Basing House! We’re going to be touring the site and talking about this year’s excavation. We’ve only got a couple of hours, so we won’t be able to show the students everything, but it’s an exciting lead up to next year’s plans. Day 9 – Artists and Family Fun! – by Dan C.

Background information Today the team were continuing with the re-excavation of the work done in the 1960’s from the previous dig that took place at Basing House. The main idea of the day again was too track down the trench boundaries left behind, as well as to continue further on from where the previous excavation had finished in an attempt to find any new finds or information that had not been previously discovered at the site before. Meet the Team – Michael Davies

Michael Davies I’ll be attending between the 29th and the 31st to help out and work with Peter on making little prints, probably woodcuts and monoprints in response to the objects excavated at the site. My work has been of abstract landscapes as of late, so to explore treasures underneath the surface will be an exciting experience and possibly something I can take away with me for inspiration as to where my own work can develop in the future.
