Terms and Conditions

In addition to a privacy policy, our application will have a Terms and Conditions agreement, which will act as a contract between us and our users, informing the users of the rules, terms and guidelines they will need to follow in order to access and use ā€œThe Story of Usā€. Whilst such terms and conditions are not required by law, having this agreement will maintain our rights to exclude certain users who may abuse our application or do not wish to follow the rules that have been set out.

Our terms and conditions will define the rules and requirements for our application and will detail what is acceptable behaviour. This is of particular importance, as our site is of sensitive nature, and our users are likely to be more vulnerable, thus we need to maintain our right to terminate usersā€™ access to our application should they engage in any misconduct. Terms and conditions vary depending on the function of the website or application in question; as our application is tailor-made to focus on socially connecting bereaved people, we will be creating our own specific terms and conditions, rather than borrowing from other websites or companies.

There are four particular reasons why terms and conditions are necessary:

  • To Prevent Abuse – this is especially important on our application, as there will be interaction between the users, and the users are very likely to be vulnerable. It is possible users would be deterred from using our service if defamation, spamming, or other abusive behaviour is not monitored and eliminated. If we did not have terms and conditions in place, we would lack the authority to suspend or ban users who display detrimental behaviour.
  • To Protect our Content – as the owners of this application, we have designed our own logo, content and design. The terms and conditions will inform users of this public face and prevent others from misappropriating it.
  • To Preserve the Right to Terminate – due to the sensitive nature of this application, it is important we have the absolute right to terminate any accounts identified as breaching our terms and conditions.
  • To Limit Liability – our terms and conditions agreement will limit any causes of actions our users may attempt to use against us. These limits on liability will address possible errors in content or system shutdowns and state that users assume these risks when they sign up to use our application, and consequently, we cannot be held liable for any losses that they may sustain should these events occur.
