Help

There are a range of ways of getting help from library staff

Librarians
See the Subject pages to find out how librarians help to support your studies.

Chat service
When you are registered as a student with the University of Southampton you will be able to use the live online chat service to put your questions to library staff. You will find the chat button on our library website

Email enquiries
You can email any questions that you have for library staff to our enquiry service email. Your email will be sent to the best person to help you. You will find the email address on our contact us page

Appointments with library staff for specialist help
At school or college you may have been used to only asking your teacher or lecturer for help with your studies. At University, as well as your lecturers and personal academic tutor, you can ask specialist library staff for help. You can book an appointment with library staff who can give you advice on how to develop and improve your academic skills including referencing, finding information for your assignments, evaluating information, critical thinking, academic writing and other skills which are vital to your studies. You will find appointment booking buttons on our library website and on your Subject page.

Training and workshops

Librarians will be involved with teaching you during your studies. Library staff also offer training sessions and workshops throughout the year where you will be shown and can practice new skills.

Take a look at our training and workshops page to find out what is on offer.  Think about what training you want when you join us as student.
