How To Evaluate Information

Every book, article or other resource you read has strengths and weaknesses. These strengths and weaknesses will vary, depending on the information you need to find and the question you need to answer.

It’s important to evaluate all the information and resources you use in your assignments, even if they’re written by academics or experts. You can evaluate resources by asking key questions.

For example:

  • Do they back up their arguments with evidence?
  • How in-depth or up-to-date is their research?
  • Do other authors agree or disagree with them?
