The Bends

Also called decompression sickness, this results when bubbles from Dissolved gases form in the blood or in tissues because of rapidly decreasing Pressure.

Species

A group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding. The Species is the principal natural taxonomic unit, ranking below a genus and denoted by a Latin binomial, e.g. Homo sapiens.

Diatom

A single-celled alga which has a cell wall of silica. Many kinds are planktonic, and extensive fossil deposits have been found.
