Three students are constructing a model out of straws and elastic bands, while another student shoots this on their phone.

Students are developing the skills needed to communicate effectively using video

Alongside our work developing and creating video for online learning and research, we have supported academic staff and students to make their own content. In this science communication project with undergraduates in Biological Sciences we explored ways to illustrate and visualise processes and create a short video (above) explaining the work of researchers in the Institute for Life Sciences.

This project supported the development of a range of skills, students were assessed as a group, using video as an alternative form of evidence to support their learning. We provided workshops and training on how best to plan and produce a film, how to ensure the key messages were communicated and published via the web.

To see more of the films visit the Biol3060 student films playlist.
