Iris Kramer is a PhD student studying machine learning in the Vision, Learning and Control Research Group at the University of Southampton. Her research focuses on deep learning for the detection of archaeological sites on multiple remote sensor images. She began her journey towards her PhD with an undergrad degree in Archaeology, where she found herself drawn towards computer applications. One of the main goals of her PhD is to bridge the gap between these two fields. Aside from her PhD she is the PG Events Officer of the Student Union for which she organises events aimed at wellbeing and careers.
Iris loves hiking and travelling. She found a strong connection between travelling and being an archaeologist, since both provide a departure into unknown lands and help bring our ancestors’ stories into our lives.
