Here are some things to consider after your journal article has been published.

Promotion: communicating your research and planning for impact

Enhancing visibility of your journal article

  • The Pure record for your journal article populates our institutional repository (ePrints|Soton) and university staff profile pages
  • Your Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCiD) connects you to your work across multiple platforms and databases, making it easier for others to discover and cite your research
  • Link your ORCiD to Pure to automatically update your ORCiD profile when new publications are added to Pure. ePrints|Soton will display your ORCiD on all your publications and datasets in the repository

Sharing your work

  • If your journal article was published with a Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC BY), you can share it in any way you like, on any platform you choose including ResearchGate. This applies to all content with a CC BY licence, including datasets, books and book chapters
  • If your article was published behind a paywall, check what rights you have to share it as the publisher frequently holds the copyright. You may find that the publisher will allow you to make your Author Accepted Manuscript openly available via our institutional repository, but there could be restrictions on how you can legally share the final published version

Metrics for evaluation

  • Altmetrics: useful to gauge the reach and influence of your research by capturing online attention and engagement with your journal article
  • Author metrics and article metrics: these can be valuable tools to help evaluate impact, but it is important to keep in mind that numbers provide only a partial narrative and should always complement, not replace, expert judgment
