Work package 3
Improving data quality for MPDSR in health facilities
Rationale
Data challenges affect the quality of death reviews and outputs from the process.
The aim of this work package is to improve the quality of data from surveillance (notification and collation of information on the circumstances around each death) and response (making SMART recommendations based on the modifiable factors identified and tracking the implementation of these recommendations).
We will
- develop data quality control mechanisms that highlight quality gaps in documentation of care, and collection and processing of surveillance and response data for MPDSR.
- review use of MPDSR tools for identification, notification, data collection, and review of deaths in health facilities, and tracking implementation of recommended actions.
- update, harmonise and optimise tools to create an improved integrated system, that synergistically combines best practices and addresses current quality gaps.
- translate, pilot and evaluate the use of a comprehensive electronic tool for capturing the entire MPDSR process on facility-based deaths (linking data quality improvement processes in MPDSR to existing national data platforms such as DHIS-2 and electronic medical records systems, where applicable).
