Tea time with Xiamen students

On the second day in China, we were introduced to students of economics (S.O.E), studying at Xiamen university. We started off by playing an ice breaker game to get to know everyone. This opportunity allowed us to ask the students at Xiamen university more about studying in China. With this, we were able to compare our British and Chinese lifestyles.

Below are some fun facts that we discovered over tea:

  • they have 3 semesters in a year;
  • pass mark is 60% and 85% for a first-class degree;
  • it is compulsory to take extra curriculum activities; and
  • students have to eat on campus as there is no kitchen in their accommodation.

Overall it was very interesting and insightful to speak to the students and learn about the similarities and differences between the student’s education: food, social life, living standards, etc.
