The number of female students and staff in STEM is growing at the University of Southampton, and so should the support network for them. Issues like gender bias, the gender wage gap and the lack of women in STEM has moved to the forefront of the public consciousness. This has encouraged more women to come forward and share their stories and show their support for one another.

The demand for a group to help women network, find support and mentoring, give advice and make connections, all in safe environment especially designed to meet their needs, led to the birth of Theano.

Here at Theano, we have been working hard for the last year to re-establish the group, which resulted in creating an online platform for women across the University of Southampton. Innovative ideas are needed to address increasing demand, improve access and provide more readily available support – yet there is no resource specially designed to provide the range of information and support that women at the University of Southampton want online.

The online platform for women at the University of Southampton is a unique initiative aimed at bridging a significant gap in the availability of support for women. The new design of the Theano website will provide all female staff and students an easily accessible online service. It will act as a tool providing women with information regarding support, services, events, female recruitments, news, and courses that are taking place at the University of Southampton.

In addition to that, our new website will be dedicated to raising awareness about the awesome work that our female students and staff have been doing in STEM. Using quotes, stories, photos and videos, the website will allow you to find resources and connect with external and internal networks. In a nutshell, our website connects women from across the University of Southampton with one another.
