Turner Sims Spring Preview: Top Picks!

The Spring Season is well underway at Turner Sims! With a stunning line up of Folk, Jazz, Classical and World Music Hannah Teague, University of Southampton Arts Ambassador, talks you through her top picks!

With a line up of Folk, Jazz, Classical and World Music, it can be a little tricky to decide what to attend! I was fortunate enough to attend he Spring Preview event on Thursday 7th February, hosted by concert hall manager, Kevin Appleby, and  got a fantastic insight into what’s coming up over the course of the spring season. I’ve chosen my top picks of what’s on coming in the next few weeks. Check out the full Turner Sims brochure to find out more about the whole programme.

 

Rizwan-Muazzam Qawwali – Wednesday 27 March, 8pm

Rizwan-Muazzam Qawwali will be bring traditional sufi music to Turner Sims at the end of March.

Qawwali is a type of devotional Sufi Music which comes from the Indian Sub-Continent. And Rizwan-Muazzam Qawwali comes from a long line spanning over 500 years of practicers. It is sure to be a wonderful night, enjoyed by Sufi Scolars or completely new fans alike.

Eric Lu – Tuesday 2 April, 8pm

Eric Lu

Eric Lu will be performing for the first time in the UK since winning the Leeds International Piano Competition in September 2018.

His programme includes Mozart, Brahms, Handel and Chopin. It is sure to be an awe inspiring evening, from one of the worlds top young pianists.

 

 

Bob Reynolds Group – Friday 8 April, 8pm

Bob Reynolds is an American saxophonist. From a child his ambition was to

create movie scores, however is now part of Grammy award winning jazz band, Snarky Puppy, and will be stunning Turner Sims in April. As someone who had never heard a jazz performance until last year I can highly recommend giving it a go, the acoustics in the hall are perfect for its sound.
