Yesterday was so exciting: we took a group of students and local residents to London to visit the National Archives and the British Library! We were looking at remount officers’ service records from Swaythling, as well as maps of the local depots and newspaper reports from the era.
We discovered so many interesting details, from the Remount Depot officer who was floored by sandfly fever in Egypt, to the local calls for higher wages for women! We cannot wait to show you all that we found at the community workshops we will be organising shortly, and at the Riverside Festival in Swaythling on 27th May.
