I have been in education for decades, but I have never seen in such depth what is happening at the “backstage”.

Hello, my name is Ferenc Horvai, but I just like to be called Frank. I have completed a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching, and my current goal is to study for a PhD next year. In my professional career helping and supporting people have always been at the forefront of whatever I did. This is one of the reasons why I am here now.

These days I do not actively engage in any hobbies. Since the pandemic began, I have taken up walking and go for a 5-mile walk each day. However, when I was younger, I used to sing in choirs and a band. I also love all animals; I used to keep various reptiles and marine fish.

As for sports, I used to be a swimmer, did judo, body building and later became a table tennis player at national level. Now I am cannot wait to start work at CHEP together with other students.

Update July 2022: It has been a real eye-opener for me that a tremendous amount of work is actually being done for students’ well-being and the best possible student experience by a fantastic body of excellent education professionals in all areas of higher education ranging from equity, belonging and diversity through peer-partnered learning to academic transitions, just to name a few.

Since I am a teacher, it is extremely difficult for me to find a workstream that does not interest me here at CHEP. Therefore, during my internship I seized every opportunity that came along; so far, I have been involved in Peer-to-Peer Interaction, Education for All, Enhancing Academic Transitions, the Library Project, Curriculum Design and contributed to the evaluation of a feedback platform for students. In addition to getting familiar with all the factors that could impact the student journey in a higher education setting, I had the opportunity to further develop my research skills by creating annotated bibliographies, searching for learning resources and analysing data from focus group transcripts.

Being surrounded by lovely people (both my fellow interns and all CHEP employees), working in collaboration with extremely knowledgeable academic tutors, exploring things that I am interested in and practising and enhancing skills that I intend to use in my future career, I do not think I could ask for more. And last but not least, one thing I would like to highlight: for a person majoring in any education-related discipline working for CHEP is the PARADISE.
