22th November 2016
David Tumbarello held a workshop on undergraduate Summer placements on 21st November. All 2nd year undergraduate students are encouraged to contact academic staff to explore placements in biological sciences labs during the summer 2017 for a period of 6-12 weeks. This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students to gain work experience in a research laboratory and obtain unique training in research skills as potential future scientists. A placement can boost CV’s and can make student more employable.

There are numerous routes to obtain funding that mostly provide the student with a stipend, either through charitable organisations (Wellcome Trust, Alzheimer’s Society, etc.) or through learned societies you may be a member of (Biochemical Society, Genetics Society, Physiology Society, Pharmacology Society, BSCB, etc.). The applications require the effort of both the academic supervisor and the student. A list of potential funding sources with links can be found in the excel sheet – see link below (there may be others that were missed) – These deadlines range from around January through to early spring. vacation-studentship-opportunities_2016-17
