Ear and Hearing

Cortical Auditory Evoked Potentials (CAEPs) are routinely used to evaluate hearing function in subjects who cannot participate in behavioural tests. Detecting the CAEP, however, can be a challenging task, as it tends to be obscured by background noise. This study aimed to automatically discriminate the CAEP from the background noise using various bootstrapped test statistics. Results show improvements in test performance over conventional CAEP detection methods, and suggest that bootstrapped statistics may facilitate CAEP measurement procedures by allowing more information to be obtained in a single clinical session.
