20th Anniversary Celebrations!

Anniversary Celebrations: Hertfordshire Cohort Study Public Meeting

The Hertfordshire Cohort Study celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2008. In celebration, a get-together was held at Castle Hall in Hertford in September, and was attended by around 400 members of the cohort local to the area.

The day was a very special one; there were speeches from the Director of the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit, Professor Cyrus Cooper, as well Professor David Barker, the founder of the Hertfordshire Studies. Participants had the opportunity to learn more about how they’ve helped the research programme by browsing stands and speaking to the Hertfordshire team members and scientists. The deputy Mayor, Cllr Peter Ruffles was in attendance, along with members of the local press. And there was a HUGE celebratory cake big enough to feed all of the guests!

One participant said: “It was good to feel that although only a minute cog in the overall research of this project, that the results are giving good guidelines to helping the future health of other people.”

Professor Cooper added: “This meeting paid tribute to the Cohort’s members who have given up hours of their time to undergo all sorts of tests, with endless cheer and generosity.”

Here are some photographs from the day:
