Southampton Green Spaces

Southampton is an incredibly green city, encompassing an abundance of parks and greenways. Aerial maps place almost every Southampton school within a 10 minute walking radius of a publically accessible green space.

Southampton Common

Southampton Common is an urban haven for wildlife, supporting various species of animals and plants, including some the public may miss such as owls, bats and newts. As a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) it’s an ideal place in the city to learn about and connect with nature.

Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre, situated on the Common, is open to the public and school groups and is a great place to learn about local biodiversity. You can also learn more about their Forest School day camps from this page, currently held at green spaces in Sholing and Maybush.
