The Icarus Project allows students from a variety of disciplines to use and apply skills learnt during their degree to a unique, exciting and challenging situation.
The majority of the research for the Icarus Project is undertaken by the GDP team, a group of Masters Students in their final year. The current team, 2016-17, are working on increasing the performance of key areas of the Icarus 1 wingsuit by extensively researching, testing and aiming to implement innovative solutions. Third year students also contribute to the project during their individual projects, for example in 2015/16 a student designed and manufactured a free-flight rig for use in a wind tunnel, allowing a more representative analysis of wingsuit flight. A summary of the individual thesis’ undertaken by third year students, and MSc students, are available to see here: Individual Projects
