Lucy C blog pic CROPPEDHello Everybody,

My name is Lucy, and I am currently a third-year student studying History at the University of Southampton.

I became involved in the ‘Swaythling in the Great War’ project last year before we had AHRC funding – it was called the ‘Community History Learning Programme’ then! I worked with a team of other students to research the Remount Depot based in Swaythling, and presented on it using maps, posters and other artefacts at a community picnic at Stoneham War Shrine: http://www.northstoneham.org.uk/warshrine/intro.html. I really enjoyed taking part in the project so I was keen to get involved again this year, to build on the research that I had done.

I am looking forward to working more closely with the local residents this year and to learning more about the local history of Swaythling – as a student at the University I think it is important to have some understanding about the local area, as well as the University being able to give back into the local community!

See you soon,

Lucy
