The MHL group aims to develop new techniques and equipment for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), an invaluable spectroscopic tool for the non-invasive analysis of different substances and processes. NMR exploits the quantum mechanical property of spin, a form of intrinsic angular momentum, which gives rise to a detectable magnetic moment in certain atomic nuclei. These magnetic moments can be manipulated via coherent radiofrequency fields to produce unique spectral patterns that can be deciphered to reveal specific chemical information.
