Owing to their high strength-to-weight ratio, stiffened plates are used in many engineering applications. However, adding stiffeners to a plate alters its ability to vibrate and radiate sound. The radiation efficiency of stiffened plates was modelled numerically for a wide range of configurations combining a finite element model with the Rayleigh integral. From the results we derived a new engineering approach which allows calculating the radiation efficiency of stiffened plates at a low computational cost.
