Dr Vasilis Strogilos delivered a keynote speech to the ‘The Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Conference 2025: Innovate, Inspire, Include’. This practice-based conference aims to bring together voices from across the education landscape, including SENDCOs, inclusion leads, teachers, headteachers and CEOs.
Highlights from Vasilis’s talk:
  • Discussing the role of RP based on findings from a recent study conducted with three mainstream schools in Hampshire
  • Presenting practical examples from a toolkit co-designed with these schools
  • Identifying two distinct models in the conceptualization and practice of RP: one as a service to promote the education and inclusion of students with SEND in mainstream classrooms and schools, and the other as a space for specialised provision
  • Arguing that RP as an inclusive service should be prioritised; however, flexibility in its conceptualization and functioning, whether as an inclusive service or a safe space, can contribute to a more realistic approach to inclusion
