Dr. Tae-Hee Choi leads a new research initiative – Advancing Inclusive Leadership: Supporting Women in Cambodian Higher Education

Dr. Tae-Hee Choi leads a new research initiative that aims to foster gender-inclusive leadership in Cambodian higher education. Jointly funded by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization and the British Council (£14,995.23), this project examines the barriers preventing female academics from advancing into leadership positions and develops strategies to promote equity and inclusion within universities.
Despite ongoing gender equity efforts, women remain underrepresented in senior leadership roles across Cambodian higher education. Structural barriers, cultural expectations, and limited access to mentorship continue to hinder their progression. In collaboration with Dr Chan Hum, the Dean of Graduate School, the National University of Battambang, this project will provide leadership training, mentorship opportunities, and institutional policy recommendations to support and empower female academics.
At its core, this research aligns with CRI’s mission of fostering inclusive environments that challenge systemic inequalities. By engaging female academics, university administrators, and policymakers, the study will drive institutional change and promote sustainable pathways for women to thrive in leadership roles. Findings will inform national policies and contribute to global discussions on inclusive leadership in higher education (both in Cambodia and the UK).
