My name is Ailish Craig and I am in the first year of my PhD within Geography and Environmental Science. My geography undergraduate degree and a volunteer trip to Nicaragua, sparked my interest in food security in rural communities. My PhD will research into the impact of social capital on household food security in rural communities in Africa. Social capital is becoming increasingly more prevalent in sustainable development but is unresearched, particularly in the food security context. I also hope to explore the temporal aspects of social capital and food security, taking in to account extreme weather events and climate change.
