Dr Dianna Smith led an ESRC Impact Acceleration Award funded project to co-develop a website that can support mapping of community assets and population data by local government, charities and NGOs. The website was created by members of GeoData with development input from Southampton City Council and Sustain. The new site, mylocalmap.org.uk, allows users to create maps in local authority locations by neighbourhood as well as upload their own data to share within closed groups. This will support decision making in local government and funding applications to address issues of social and health inequality by providing basic GIS software and guidance in mapping to non-experts. The site was launched with a webinar in May 2019, and currently includes data on a previously published Food Poverty Risk Index, Census 2011 data, locations of emergency food distribution points.
