Opti‑MaP is a four‑year research project funded by the UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). It is designed to strengthen Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) systems in Ethiopia, Ghana, and Uganda.
Led by the University of Southampton and partners across Africa and Europe, we want to improve how deaths are reported, reviewed, and acted upon, and to assess if strengthening MPDSR can reduce new-born mortality.

We work with partners across Uganda, Ghana and Ethiopia to help improve conditions for maternal and perinatal patients.

Look through our published papers to find out more about the results of our work.
