Southampton Celebrates – 16-24 February 2018

Join us on the night of 16 February as a week-long celebration of art and culture kicks off, signalling the launch of Studio 144. University of Southampton’s John Hansard Gallery, City Eye and Nuffield Southampton Theatres will all be opening the doors to their new homes in Guildhall Square, Southampton.

The opening of Studio 144, Southampton’s ambitious new venue for theatre, visual art and film, completes the city’s Cultural Quarter and forms the next step in Southampton’s cultural regeneration. Together this provides huge opportunities for everyone whether they be students, university staff, or the wider community.

From Friday 16 February at 18:30 Guildhall Square comes alive, with a dance performance choreographed by ZoieLogic and John Hansard Gallery presenting an exciting programme of artworks and activities featuring artists from around the world such as Rhona Byrne, Rob Crosse, Hetain Patel, and interactive projects Conversation Station and Department for Doing Nothing.

At NST City, Nuffield Southampton Theatre’s new space, you can go behind the scenes of a producing theatre, step into the stories behind the world premiere production The Shadow Factory and see the visually stunning set by 59 Productions, the Tony award winning design team behind the London 2012 Opening Ceremony. Then buy your tickets to the show!

This free, celebratory evening will be complemented by a whole day of free events at NST City, and a week-long programme of free activity at the John Hansard Gallery as part of their Sampler programme.
