Southampton appoints new lecturer in Ancient History

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Alan Ross as Lecturer in Ancient Roman History. Alan is very excited to be joining the expanding team of ancient historians at Southampton. His interests lie in the history and literature of the later Roman empire, particularly during the fourth century. This was a critical time of religious and political change and upheaval that saw Christianity supplant ‘paganism’ as the state religion, and the rise and fall of the House of Constantine the Great. Alan works mainly on political literature, especially historiography and rhetoric. He comes to Southampton after holding research positions in Dublin and South Africa, and had written his doctorate at Oxford. Alan will join the University from January, and will be teaching on Augustan Rome whilst developing exciting new modules for 2016-17.
