On behalf of Ancient World Studies at the University of Southampton, we are delighted to welcome Dr Annelies Cazemier as our new Lecturer in Ancient Greek History. In Semester 2, Annelies will be teaching a Year 1 module on Alexander the Great and his Legacy, and she will be developing our Ancient History curriculum with new modules in the pipeline likely to focus on topics such as ‘Greeks at War’. Annelies comes to us from the University of Oxford where she was Stipendiary Lecturer in Ancient History at Somerville College. Before taking up that position, Annelies worked on the Copenhagen Associations Project, researching ancient Greek associations and societies, with a focus on religion, the involvement of foreigners, and relations with Rome. Annelies studied Ancient Cultures (BA/MA) at the Free University, Amsterdam, followed by graduate studies in Ancient History at the University of Oxford where she wrote a DPhil on ‘Roman Interaction with Cults and Sanctuaries in the Greek World’, the subject of her forthcoming monograph, Greek Sanctuaries and the Rise of Rome.
