Our aim is to explore the role of digital technology in the formation of learner identities and in school-to-work transitions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/wfrc\/work-futures-research-centre\/2013\/05\/seminar-digital-technologies-and-school-to-work-transition\/attachment\/life_in_halls4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-121\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"Digital Technologies\" src=\"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/wfrc\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/sites\/17\/2013\/05\/life_in_Halls4-466x310.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"187\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We are hosting a series of seminars, each on a particular theme, with invited scholars and practitioners in order to explore relevant issues and concepts in this area of research.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This <strong>second seminar &#8216;Practitioner Perspectives&#8217;<\/strong> will focus on IT practice in schools, the new ICT curriculum, and young people\u2019s informal learning of IT.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">When?<\/span> Tuesday, 28<sup>th<\/sup> May, 4 to 6pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Where?<\/span> Building 32, Room 2097, Highfield Campus, University of Southampton. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Presentations:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cythia Selby-<\/strong> Subject Leader, ICT and Computing, Bay House School Sixth Form College: <em>&#8216;Digital Technologies: A Post- 16 Perspective&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil Bagge- <\/strong>Hampshire County Council Lead Computing\/ICT teacher, CAS Primary Facilitator: <em>&#8216;How does students&#8217; informal learning of technology feed into the formal school context?&#8217; <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Tea &amp; coffee will be served. There will be wine and nibbles after the seminar.<\/p>\n<p>Questions that are of particular interest include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How is digital technology used to deliver education?<\/li>\n<li>How are digital skills taught in schools?<\/li>\n<li>How does digital technology shape young people\u2019s learning?<\/li>\n<li>How does students\u2019 informal learning of technology feed into the formal school context?<\/li>\n<li>How does digital technology translate into post-compulsory education career choices?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please note that spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
