How to Say When It’s Not OK

C-DICE Webinar: by Professor Elizabeth Stokoe

When someone says or does something problematic or offensive, what are our interactional options for responding, right in the moment? In this session, Professor Liz Stokoe will present research findings that underpin practical strategies for saying when it’s not okay – whether you are dealing with sexism or other ‘-isms’ or something else. Liz will use examples from actual encounters, recorded ‘in the wild’, to open up a discussion about why it’s much easier to say what you would do in these situations, than actually do it, and then present some options and their likely consequences.

Presented by Professor Liz Stokoe, Loughborough University
