{"id":202,"date":"2014-11-07T14:37:57","date_gmt":"2014-11-07T14:37:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.soton.ac.uk\/antipolitics\/?p=202"},"modified":"2014-11-07T14:37:57","modified_gmt":"2014-11-07T14:37:57","slug":"contemporary-concern-with-anti-politics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/test-media\/2014\/11\/07\/contemporary-concern-with-anti-politics\/","title":{"rendered":"Contemporary concern with anti-politics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/yougov.co.uk\/news\/2014\/10\/29\/political-disaffection-not-new-it-rising-and-drivi\/\">YouGov poll<\/a> and official launch of the project stimulated discussion about the impact of public disengagement with formal politics in the present.<\/p>\n<p>The poll&#8217;s results were included in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/voices\/comment\/daily-catchup-strangely-named-buildings-antipolitics-and-pedantry-9824412.html\">The Independent&#8217;s daily catch-up<\/a>, whilst <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.spectator.co.uk\/nick-cohen\/2014\/10\/what-bells-tolls-for-politicians-who-die-as-cattle\/\">Nick Cohen suggested in The Spectator<\/a> that our early research indicates the difficulty of the task that faces the winner of next year&#8217;s general election. This week, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/news\/datablog\/2014\/nov\/06\/podemos-a-crisis-of-trust-and-the-rise-of-new-political-parties?CMP=share_btn_tw\">Alberto Nardelli discussed our findings in The Guardian <\/a>in relation to the rise of new political parties in contemporary democracies.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst political disenchantment may not be new, the rise of anti-politics is assuming  greater significance in contemporary discussions of formal politics. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week&#8217;s YouGov poll and official launch of the project stimulated discussion about the impact of public disengagement with formal politics in the present.
