This event will bring together researchers, local cultural institutions, and the wider public for a series of talks, workshops, and hands-on activities around the theme of The Sea. We’ll be considering\u00a0everything from pirates to shipwrecks to\u00a0sound and the sea.<\/p>\n

As a port city, Southampton has a long history of interaction with the sea and the industries surrounding it. This event will be an opportunity for the public to learn about and engage with innovative research on the sea across space and time.<\/p>\n

The event is free and the Avenue Campus caf\u00e9 will be open for visitors to purchase light refreshments.<\/p>\n

In addition to the core talks, there will be some children\u2019s activities from 12-3pm and an interactive exhibition. There will be a maritime archaeology ‘meet the experts’ drop-in room through the afternoon and several CMA members will be giving ‘core talks’ (including Julian Whitewright<\/a> discussing ‘Shipwrecks of the Solent’, Fraser Sturt<\/a> talking on ‘Living with Environmental Change’ and Jesse Ransley<\/a> ‘Building backwater boats: mud, sewing and other stories’)<\/p>\n

SeaCity Museum<\/a>\u00a0in Southampton will also be hosting some ‘Sea and Me’ activities as part of the day (entry fee to the museum applies).<\/p>\n

This event is part of the\u00a0Being Human Festival<\/a>, led by the School of Advanced Studies and supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.<\/p>\n
