{"id":78,"date":"2015-07-18T17:26:25","date_gmt":"2015-07-18T17:26:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/musicemployability\/?page_id=78"},"modified":"2015-07-18T17:26:25","modified_gmt":"2015-07-18T17:26:25","slug":"transferable-skills","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/test-media\/key-employability-skills\/transferable-skills\/","title":{"rendered":"Transferable Skills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Transferable Skills\u00a0<\/strong>are skills gained which are not subject-specific but employers are always looking out for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Commercial awareness skills<\/strong> \u2013 An understanding and appreciation of how business operates and the broader contexts \u2013 customers, competitors and suppliers, including how to treat\u00a0yourself as a business if you are becoming self-employed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Communication skills<\/strong> \u2013 including literacy and interpersonal skills, effective and active listening, reflecting, questioning and presenting (oral , written &amp; non-verbal), and for us musicians MUSICALLY \u2013 being able to communicate to an audience.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Intellectual &amp; subject knowledge skills<\/strong> \u2013 with the skills to apply discipline specific knowledge in a range of contexts and the intellectual curiosity to question accepted wisdom and be open to ideas.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Language skills <\/strong>\u2013 learning and practicing a foreign language; ALWAYS useful.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Problem solving and analytical skills<\/strong> \u2013 including the ability to make decisions and apply appropriate solutions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Project management skills <\/strong>\u2013 applying appropriate project management tools and techniques, able to set goals and plans, managing resources to deliver results and measuring success with strong time management and organisational skills.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Self-management and personal effectiveness skills<\/strong> \u2013 including time management, being a self-starter, self-motivated, having a readiness to accept responsibility, and independent working skills.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social responsibility and global citizenship skills <\/strong>\u2013 Recognise issues affecting the economy, environment, human rights and how individuals operate as part of a community, on a local or global scale.
