SES is committed to supporting researchers to manage their data effectively, from planning research activity through to the long term archiving and curation of data and is exploring some areas of shared interest. It will actively seek to contribute to national/international forums and work with funders, organisations and interest groups, to develop an optimal policy and infrastructure framework for our research communities.
Activity is currently organised around three key themes:
1. Governance and engagement
Investigating common issues relating to oversight of research data management activity, including how best to share information about ongoing activity with funders and other organisations and promote best practice.
2. Training and development
Supporting on-going development of expertise and facilitating knowledge transfer. A recent workshop brought SES Library, IT and Research Support staff together with researchers and national experts.
- What researchers want out of RDM training
- Research Funder Requirements
- Metadata for datasets
- Oxford RDM Support Services
- Case Study of Life Sciences data
- Training and education of Library staff in RDM
- RDM for Computational Science
- Helping researchers manage their data
A workshop for Early Career Researchers is planned later this year. This workshop will explore the challenges associated with managing large volumes of data, raise awareness of services provided and establish a community of practice to foster on-going improvement of these services.
3. Shared technical services
Modelling costs and shared services options for improved storage of those research data identified as requiring longer term archiving e.g. data underpinning publications, heritage data collections.
