The University had just been granted its Charter, which would enable it to award its own degrees. The Charter was to be delivered by relay from London University, which had awarded the degrees in previous years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure><a href=\"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/southamptonconnects\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/sites\/27\/\/2015\/04\/Classnotescharterrelay1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-537\" src=\"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/southamptonconnects\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/sites\/27\/\/2015\/04\/Classnotescharterrelay1.jpg\" alt=\"Class-notes-charter-relay1\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>John (Far right on the front row)\u00a0found himself running on the relay team to deliver the Charter along with twenty or so other students.
