Alumnus Kelvyn Jones (BSc Geography 1975; PhD Geography 1981) is now Professor of Human Quantitative Geography at the University of Bristol. He has received the UK\u2019s highest accolade for social scientists \u2013 being elected a Fellow of the British Academy.<\/h2>\n

Kelvyn is the first alumnus from Geography and Environment at Southampton to be awarded such a prestigious honour in the department\u2019s 100-year history. The British Academy is the UK\u2019s national body for the humanities and social sciences focusing on the study of peoples, cultures and societies, past, present and future. Each year, it elects up to 42 outstanding UK-based scholars to its Fellowship who have achieved academic distinction reflected in scholarly research activity and publication.<\/p>\n
