The University’s second public lecture series will come to a close in December after a fantastic year of thought-provoking discussion.
Aiming to explore key global challenges and demonstrate our interdisciplinary expertise on a range of topics, the first public lecture series in 2016 showed how our world-leading research impacts on medical policy and practice.
This year’s series has looked at a range of critical issues which affect our planet, including food security, climate and clean energy. At the lectures, our leading experts have debated the intricacies of these topics, demonstrating how Southampton is instrumental in shaping opinions and processes to ensure a sustainable future.
The final lecture in the series, on Wednesday 6 December, will focus on how the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals can be delivered.
Held at the Royal Institute of British Architects, the event will explore the major challenges being faced at a political level in delivering the Sustainable Development Goals, and the role that universities and academics can play in supporting international policy makers.
Keynote speakers include The Rt Hon Patricia Scotland QC (The Secretary General of the Commonwealth), Professor Charlotte Watts (Chief Scientific Advisor to the Department for International Development) and Professor Sybren Drijfhout, Professor in Physical Oceanography and Climate Physics at the University of Southampton.
