Alumni branches in Shanghai and Beijing met for a series of networking events over the past few months, allowing international alumni to continue to develop their relationships with the University while providing knowledge and expertise to help each other improve their professional skills and networks.
On 5 November 2016, the universities of Southampton, Reading and Exeter co-held an alumni event in Shanghai to welcome graduates back to China and hold a range of professional development talks offering entrepreneurial guidance.
A professional career development mentor from Beijing Haiwei Times Ltd gave a well-received speech to alumni in attendance, and alumnus Jun Zhang, who graduated with an MBA in 2002, spoke about his career as a chairman for a successful asset management company. He imparted his knowledge and answered questions on his career path.
Graduates were also able to exchange their personal views on the development of a career and share their experience of studying abroad.
Later in November, the Shanghai Alumni Branch held a workshop with Manpower Group – a worldwide leader in innovative workforce solutions – to help alumni enhance their job hunting skills and develop their career experience.
In Beijing, over 40 members of the Beijing Alumni Branch met to celebrate the festive season with a special Christmas dinner held in the Timepills Restaurant, where they enjoyed a three-course meal and live music. Alumni were also joined by representatives from the British Council.
Alumni branches, like the ones throughout China, are a great way of connecting with other Southampton graduates in your country. Take part in events, progress your professional development or simply reminisce about your time at the University of Southampton, no matter where you are in the world you are sure to find fellow alumni with whom you have a shared history.
