From October, Southampton is the final host city for the British Art Show 8 (BAS8), a highly influential and exciting exhibition of contemporary art produced in the UK. Hosted by John Hansard Gallery and Southampton City Art Gallery, this will be a unique opportunity for audiences in the South to see and engage with the exhibition which to date has toured to Leeds, Edinburgh and Norwich.
BAS8 will be presented by the John Hansard Gallery at the University of Southampton’s Highfield Campus, Southampton City Art Gallery, and other off-site venues in the city. The exhibition will also be a catalyst for a city-wide series of arts events when it opens on 8 October, running until 14 January 2017.
BAS8 is a national exhibition that provides a vital overview of some of the most exciting contemporary art produced in the UK. Organised by Hayward Touring at Southbank Centre, London, and taking place every five years, it introduces a broad public to a new generation of artists and work, including film, sculpture, painting, photography, performance and design.
