UK
Our annual London branch celebrations packed out the pub at the Old Bank of England in Fleet Street in November, and saw a record number of alumni turn up on the night. Representatives from the original London branch joined the new committee for an evening of drinks, nibbles and networking.
More photos from the night are online here.
The London branch committee is currently planning a 1930s prohibition event; any London-based alumni are welcome to attend, so please do contact us for more information.
China
Professor Dame Wendy Hall visited Shenzhen in December to speak with graduates interested in forming an alumni branch in the area. We are in the process of forming a committee to lead this group. Please contact us if you would like to be involved.
Japan
Our Tokyo alumni branch held an afternoon tea celebration for new graduates returning to Japan after graduating in the summer.
Singapore and Malaysia
We were delighted that Professor Nick Jennings, who was made Companion of the Order of the Bath in the Queen’s New Year Honours this year, was able to present a special alumni lecture at the University of Southampton’s Malaysia Campus in Johor, Malaysia, before reprising his talk for alumni in Singapore.
The lecture, given at the end of January, brought Professor Jennings’s pioneering work on Human-Agent Collectives to our alumni audiences in Malaysia and Singapore, and the informal drinks reception that followed provided an opportunity for networking and reconnecting with old friends.
Mexico
An alumni dinner was held in Mexico City in November, with alumni, University staff and current University students in attendance. The students were part of current exchange programmes with Mexican universities.
