Eating animals is unnecessary for our survival or health<\/p>\n<p>2. To breed, rear and slaughter animals causes suffering<\/p>\n<p>3. We should not cause unnecessary suffering<\/p>\n<p>So we should not eat animals.<\/p>\n<p>(In addition, they added that if we stopped eating animals it would be better for the health of the planet and for human health.)<\/p>\n<p>The two voices for  NO (Cyrille Barrette, Laval U, and Jean-Pierre Vaillancourt, U Montreal) argued that:<\/p>\n<p>CB1: There are continuities and discontinuities in the Darwinian evolution of species: we should respect the differences and distances between species<\/p>\n<p>CB2: Humans are the only species that is \u201caltrusitic\u201d and has the capacity to make choices and laws; pain is not the same as suffering; we should respect these differences<\/p>\n<p>CB3: We evolved as omnivores; let\u2019s continue to eat everything we evolved to be able to eat<\/p>\n<p>J-PV1: Animals industrially bred and slaughtered suffer, but not that much<\/p>\n<p>J-PV2: Whether they suffer too much to justify eating is a matter of opinion and free choice<\/p>\n<p>(J-PV also challenged the degree of benefit for the planet if we stopped breeding animals to eat; he also cited the business interests of the meat industry)<\/p>\n<p>There was no vote taken. Readers can draw their own conclusions from my summary. Manger les animaux (non-humains) n\u2019est pas n\u00e9cessaire ni \u00e0 la vie, nie \u00e0 la survie humaine<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00c9lever et abattre les animaux cause la souffrance.<\/p>\n<p>3. On ne doit pas causer la souffrance sans n\u00e9cessit\u00e9<\/p>\n<p>Donc on ne doit pas manger les animaux.<\/p>\n<p>(En suppl\u00e9ment, ils ont ajout\u00e9 que si les humains ne mangeaient plus les animaux \u00e7a serait meilleur pour la sant\u00e9 de la plan\u00e8te ainsi que pour la sant\u00e9 humaine.)<\/p>\n<p>Les deux voix pour le NON (Cyrille Barrette, U Laval, er Jean-Pierre Vaillancourt, UdeM) ont soutenu que:<\/p>\n<p>CB1: Il y a des continuit\u00e9s ainsi que des discontinuit\u00e9s dans l\u2019\u00e9volution darwinienne des esp\u00e8ces: on doit respecter les diff\u00e9rences ainsi que les distances entre les esp\u00e8ces<\/p>\n<p>CB2: Les humains sont la seule esp\u00e8ce \u00ab altruiste \u00bb avec la capacit\u00e9 de faire les choix et les lois; la douleur n&#8217;est pas la m\u00eame chose que la souffrance;  on doit respecter ces diff\u00e9rences<\/p>\n<p>CB3: L\u2019\u00e9volution nous a adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00eatre omnivores: Continuons \u00e0 manger tout ce que nous sommes adapt\u00e9s \u00e0 manger<\/p>\n<p>J-PV1: Les animaux d\u2019\u00e9levage souffrent, mais pas autant que \u00e7a<\/p>\n<p>J-PV2: S\u2019ils souffrent trop pour justifier les manger c&#8217;est une question d\u2019opinion et de libre choix<\/p>\n<p>(J-PV a aussi contest\u00e9 le degr\u00e9 des b\u00e9n\u00e9fices qu&#8217;il y aurait pour la plan\u00e8te  s\u2019il n\u2019y avait plus d\u2019\u00e9levage des animaux de consommation; il a cit\u00e9 aussi les int\u00e9r\u00eats commerciaux de l&#8217;industrie de la viande)<\/p>\n<p>On n\u2019a pas pris le vote. Les lecteurs peuvent tirer leur propres conclusions \u00e0 partir de mon r\u00e9sum\u00e9.
