Studies with a clear global health component represented 35\u00b76% of all funding (\u00a3927 million).<\/div>\n<p>By disease, HIV received \u00a3461 million (17\u00b77%), malaria \u00a3346 million (13\u00b73%), tuberculosis \u00a3149 million (5\u00b77%), influenza \u00a380 million (3\u00b71%), and hepatitis C \u00a360 million (2\u00b73%). We compared funding with disease burden (DALYs and mortality) to show low levels of investment relative to burden for gastrointestinal infections (\u00a3254 million, 9\u00b77%), some neglected tropical diseases (\u00a3184 million, 7\u00b71%), and antimicrobial resistance (\u00a396 million, 3\u00b77%). Virology was the highest funded category (\u00a31 billion, 38\u00b74%).
