The Bone Research Society (BRS) Annual Meeting took place in Liverpool on Friday 1st July 2016. The meeting featured a broad-ranging programme with sessions on rare bone diseases, muscle and bone, mineralisation, metabolomics, cancer and bone, cartilage-bone interactions, imaging, gait analysis and endocrinology of bone.<\/p>\n
Congratulations to Juan Nunez, Institute for Life Sciences\/ Kerkut Trust\u00a0\u00a0PhD student, for being awarded a prize for best poster at the BRS Annual Meeting. Juan is supervised by Claire Clarkin, Philipp Thurner and Philipp Schneider in the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences and Faculty of Engineering\u00a0at the University of Southampton. His poster, titled Identification of regional diversity in blood vessel structures within murine cortical bone showed the results of his research on the use of high resolution imaging to visualise bone vasculature and understand its role in bone health and disease.<\/p>\n
Claire Clarkin, Lecturer in Developmental Biology, said: \u201cWe are delighted that Juan\u2019s research efforts have been recognised by the Bone Research Society. Over the last three years he has worked tirelessly developing imaging techniques to allow for quantification of blood vessel structures within bone and has now shown for the first time that these structures are altered with age. As a result, targeting blood vessels therapeutically could improve current clinical treatments for degenerative bone diseases such as osteoporosis\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
